As many people have know that Singapore have finally open our first casino. Well the story never stop there, in just a few month later, Marina Bay will open up another casino.
What I think about this casino biz thingy, well it will certainly boost our economy, in term of tourist attraction. Not to forget, we have F1 racing too. Also needless to say, it is an entertainment for us too.
But complains could be heard anywhere regarding the casino, even the FM radio is talking about. To my surprises, most complaint I have heard of is not about the people security regarding casino operation, as casino may lead to more robbery and thief. But it's regarding the tax levy we need to pay.
For any non-gambler Singaporean, it don't really affect them, but for some it's like losing $100 before any "entertainment" session. And for those like me, I don’t gamble, not even 4D :), I just want to experience how is it in our Singapore casino. How grand does it stand compare to others in the world. But with this tax levy, no way I will go in.
Let's see, is this tax really necessary? In some way, yes, it can act as a barrier for some that may want to go in to gamble. So we will not be addicted to gambling. Since this is tax only applied to Singaporean and not foreigner, it actually attract more foreigner than Singaporean in the casino. In economic stand view, it mean more outsource money is flowing into our economy. As foreign worker in Singapore also enjoy this privilege, if they are in the casino to gamble and not just enjoying the free food inside, it will mean our money will continue flowing within the country. Kinda bad thinking there, but I think that's how it seem. Of cause allowing foreign worker and non-PR free from tax might cause another problem, but not all system is perfect! There are bound to have some problem arise from any system implemented, and if does not affect majority of us, then it's not a bad system.
